Linda Voss is an American woman of Irish and Jewish-German ancestry, who loves music, and movies, especially those about war and spies. Finds herself living out the plot of those beloved spy movies in her real life when she accepts a job at a New York law firm as a German translator to a humorless lawyer. Soon she begins to suspect her boss Ed Leland of being involved in espionage work. She uncovers her boss has been living a double life as a spy, and the two become lovers. When the US join the allied forces against Hitler, the two are separated when Ed is reassigned. Believing her fluency in German could be an asset to the war effort, Linda joins Ed overseas, and is thrust into the world of socialites, long lost family, and double agents.
